Defy age with boosting metabolism

You may have noticed that you could eat a lot more when you were younger and not gain weight.

As you age, metabolism slows down and fewer calories are burned throughout the day.

Luckily, there are changes to help prevent weight gain and you can still lose weight regardless of age.

For example, when you reach 50 you will burn 200 fewer calories per day and find it more and more difficult to lose weight and keep it off. This occurs from the loss of sex hormones in the body that occurs with advancing age.

To combat this, you need to give your body another source to get its sex hormones and to boost metabolism.

Luckily, there are great ways to supply the body with extra estrogen and testosterone and increase metabolism (through diet and exercise) throughout your 30s, 40s and 50s.

For example, the body’s chemistry starts to change around age 30 and it may be more challenging to maintain body weight. This happens because the metabolism is starting to slow down.

On his television show, Dr. Oz suggested the metabolism boosting foods below to help ward off those unwanted pounds.

Eating foods high in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), like button mushrooms and pine nuts, help to boost metabolism. Balsamic vinegar can also help to lose weight because it activates a fat burning gene in the body.

By the time that you enter your 40s, muscle is quite different than what it was in your 20s. When you’re in your 20s, muscle can burn through all of the calories consumed fairly quickly, but in your 40s, the same amount of calories may take longer to get utilized.

Dr. Oz recommends doing some form of weight training to increase lean muscle mass. When muscles are built up more calories will be burned, not only during workouts but also while the body is at rest.

Even more calories can be burned while sleeping!
