The amazing benefits of CBD use as a natural treatment for anxiety, depression, and adrenal support
Anxiety and depression are pathologies that truly affect many individuals daily in many different forms of their lives, such as productivity, health, well-being, and even their social life.
An estimated 19.1% of U.S. adults had an anxiety disorder in the past year. Worrying can affect the body in ways that may surprise you.
When worrying becomes excessive, it can lead to feelings of high anxiety and even cause you to be physically ill.
Chronic worrying can affect your daily life so much that it may interfere with your appetite, lifestyle habits, relationships, sleep, and job performance. Many people who worry excessively are so anxiety-ridden that they seek relief in harmful lifestyle habits such as overeating or use of cigarettes.
Cannabidiol (CBD) has been shown to have natural antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like compounds that significantly reduce anxiety, depression, and worry. It’s a natural treatment for anxiety and depression. CBD oil can act as a 5-HT1 receptor agonist, meaning it can help with depression and anxiety by playing a role in the serotonin pathways.
In a 2011 study, they took in 10 people with social anxiety who had never received any treatments for their disorder. They were given either a placebo or 400mg of CBD.
The participants who were given CBD oil successfully improved their anxiety symptoms compared to the placebo. The results showed that CBD reduces anxiety in social anxiety disorders and that this is related to its effects on activity in limbic and paralimbic brain areas.
Adrenal glands produce critical hormones to assist the body in regulating blood pressure, blood sugar, burning fat and protein, and managing stress. With high-stress levels, poor diet, sleep deprivation, and a sedentary lifestyle, the adrenal glands can become overworked and stressed.
People with adrenal fatigue have trouble waking up and getting out of bed in the morning. Despite a full night’s sleep, they will never feel rested and often feel groggy due to unstable levels of both cortisone and adrenaline.
CBD has been shown to help regulate the body’s circadian rhythm and encourage homeostasis in the sleep cycle through interaction with the endocannabinoid system’s CB1 receptor, located throughout the nervous system.
CBD alters serotonin signals. Serotonin is one of your body’s chemicals and plays a role in your mental health. Low serotonin levels are common in depression. Not having enough serotonin can also cause anxiety in some people.
Typically, individuals have used products like Zoloft or Prozac to manage anxiety/depression, but with negative side effects and the common symptom of feeling emotionless and drained. Instead, most people are looking for natural alternatives.
When most individuals steer clear of these drugs due to the intolerable side effects, they typically also want to avoid the next option they typically get prescribed: tranquilizers like Valium and Xanax, which are known for being highly addictive.
Clearly, alternative treatments are warranted. CBD has been proven through clinical, experimental, and epidemiological studies to have great effects on anxiety-related disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, panic disorders, and generalized anxiety disorder (which is the most common of them all.)
Brazilian researchers conducted a small double-blind study of patients afflicted with generalized social anxiety. After consuming CBD, participants reported a significant decrease in anxiety.
Researchers validated patients’ subjective reports by performing brain scans showing cerebral blood flow patterns consistent with an anti-anxiety effect. With many studies comings to the same conclusion that CBD makes a significant difference when treating anxiety and depression, it’s an easy transition for most to make.
Switching from a harsh medication to a natural compound with anti-anxiety and anti-depressant like benefits — without the harmful side effects — is an easy decision.
